A transformative technique for liposuction that gently dislodges fat cells from surrounding connective tissue using pulses of anesthetic fluid. The unwanted fat is then gently suctioned out. This technique also removes fat in a way that it can be transferred to other parts of the body such as the face, hands, or buttocks. The fat transfer procedure can be performed the same day as the Body Jet Liposuction. Most doctors performing liposuction in Philadelphia use a wet technique that swells the area to be liposuctioned. Body Jet (WAL) constantly adds and removes the fluid during the procedure, so Dr. Falcone is better able to see the new contouras she creates it. This is the preferred technique for removal offat from all leg regions and the buttocks. It is also the indicatedtreatment for Lipedema treatment.

What Is Body Jet Liposuction?

Body Jet Liposuction is a transformative new technique for liposuction that gently dislodges fat cells from surrounding connective tissue using pulses of anesthetic fluid. As the water jet dislodges the unwanted fat, it is gently suctioned from the area in one continuous process. The result is less fluid in the body at any given time than with the previous wet or tumescent (local anesthetic) techniques, making it possible to see the end result when the procedure is completed.

Body Jet Liposuction is also a liposuction technique that removes fat so that it can be transferred to other parts of the body such as the face, hands, or buttocks. A patient’s fat grafting procedure can be done the same day as their Body Jet Liposuction procedure, all while the patient is awake. The fat removed by the Body Jet is suctioned into a sterile container and then placed into syringes for injection in other areas.

Fat transfer can be used as an injectable filler for facial wrinkles, lip augmentation, hand rejuvenation, or butt augmentation with results lasting three to five years or longer. Once the fat is removed for transfer, SmartLipo™ can be used to tighten skin of the overlying donor.

By combining technologies, patients have the potential for excellent body contouring, immediately visible results, and enhanced skin tightening all while awake using gentle techniques which minimize healing time.

What Makes Body Jet Liposuction Different

Most doctors performing liposuction in Philadelphia are using some variation of wet liposuction, which is the most frequently used liposuction technique. The wet technique starts by first infusing a volume of fluid into the area of the patient’s body being liposuctioned. This fluid contains a local anesthetic and a vasoconstrictor to reduce bleeding. The fluid swells the bodily area to be liposuctioned. Then, after a waiting period, the fluid and targeted fat cells are suctioned out.

Body Jet is different because instead of first swelling the area with anesthetic fluid, Body Jet constantly adds and removes the fluid during the procedure. With this constant exchange of fluid, the doctor is better able to see the new contour as she creates it. The patients can also see and comment on the changes since they are awake during the procedure.

Body Jet uses gentle pulsating fluid to dislodge fat cells from the connective tissue in which it is held. *With less force required using the Body Jet, there is less trauma to the healthy connective tissues, improving healing times and skin retraction. You can actually see the difference in the amount of force used by watching one of our Body Jet Liposuction videos.

Benefits of Body Jet Liposuction vs. Traditional Liposuction

In the hands of an experienced provider, such as Dr. Falcone, the benefits are manifold.

First, introducing less excessive fluid to the body brings benefits. There is a lessened risk of complications due to fluid overload in the body (edema), and a lower risk of the body reacting to the amounts of anesthetic present in this fluid (toxicity). Less swelling from excess fluid also means both the doctor and the patient are better able to see the actual body contouring as it takes place. This provides more aesthetic accuracy and fewer surprises than a procedure where you must wait for the swelling to subside to see the actual result.

Many benefits are also associated with the fact that the cannula uses pulsating water and less manual force to remove the fat cells. While no procedure is risk-free, liposuction in the hands of an experienced doctor has a very low rate of major complications (a recent study published in Dermatologic Surgery [July 2004, pp. 967-978] found the major complication rate was approximately 1.5 in 1,000). Therefore, while very rare, one of the potential complications of liposuction is that an area while might be inadvertently injured while forcefully moving the cannula in and out of the tissues. With Body Jet Liposuction this already low risk is made even lower by the fact that less forceful movement of the cannula is required, and the doctor is better able to see the area being treated, since it is not masked by excessive swelling.
