Also known as fat grafting, fat injection, fat transplant
Most of us have some extra fat tucked into some part of our bodies that we would rather not have. At the same time many of us wish another part of our body was a little fuller and younger looking. Sometimes this is to correct the volume loss that typically accompanies aging (like in the face or hands). Or it may be to enhance areas that we have always wished to have more volume (like the breasts or buttocks) If this is your situation too, then a fat transfer procedure may be a great option for you.
With fat transfer, you can remove unwanted fat from one area of your body and use that fat to add volume to another body area!
A fat transfer, or fat injection, removes fat from areas in which you have an excess, such as the waist or thighs, and transfers it into areas that may be lacking in volume, such as your face, hands, breasts or buttocks. This well-tolerated procedure produces natural-looking and long-lasting results. Every year board-certified cosmetic surgeon Dr. Victoria Falcone helps patients achieve the look they’ve always wanted and become more excited about their appearance with a successful fat grafting procedure. Dr. Falcone has been a liposuction specialist since 2007 and performs liposuction daily at the Falcone Center.
Fat Transfer to the Buttocks / Brazilian Butt Lift
How do you feel about your butt? The shape and proportion of the buttocks are important factors influencing the attractiveness of the body. However, these attributes are largely determined by your genetics. Both your skeletal structure and how your body stores fat determine the shape of your bottom.
Recent celebrities such as Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Lopez have popularized the look of women having fuller buttocks. And while many women desire to have a similar look, some cannot do so easily due to their genetics.
As Dr. Falcone states, “What we are seeing is a shift in the concept of the perfect figure. In years past many women just wanted to be as skinny as possible. But now we see many women embracing a fuller, rounder butt as the new standard of beauty.”
Diet and exercise can tone your muscles and help you maintain a healthy body weight, but many patients still feel unhappy that their “flat” bottom lacks shape. In fact, a common source of frustration is that your success in maintaining a slender figure may actually undermine your efforts to have a large voluptuous bottom.
Brazilian butt lift surgery can help you overcome the effects of genetics by reshaping the buttocks, hips, and thighs.
If your goal is any of the following you may be a perfect candidate for a Brazilian Butt Lift:
- Enhance the curves of your lower body
- Reduce fat pockets on your hips, thighs or belly while adding fullness to the buttocks
- Help clothing fit more attractively
- Give a more youthful, aesthetically pleasing shape to flat buttocks
- Enhance your overall proportions by improving balance between your upper and lower body
Compared to previously available forms of buttock enhancement surgery, such as silicone butt implants, a Brazilian butt lift can provide more natural-looking solution for the sagging and shapelessness that sometimes occur with age. And at the same time the procedure has a lower risk of infection.
Fat Transfer to the Face
Would you like a more youthful appearance without fillers? Facial fat transfer may be for you.
As we age the loss of facial fat volume can cause us to have a hollowed or fatigued look, which sometimes resembles the look someone may have after a prolonged illness.
Facial hollows from fat atrophy typically develop under the eyes, below the cheekbones, and around the mouth, but also can occur along the jawline, temples, brow and forehead.
Ironically people with low body fat who are in good shape sometimes experience this facial hollowing the most as they age. The loss of volume in these areas hastens the look of aging and can make people appear older than they are.
The face can appear dramatically younger by restoring volume to the under eye area, treating local wrinkles, softening the transition between the lower eyelid and the cheek region, and filling the deep grooves around the mouth.
Healthy patients, whose faces appear hollow, especially under the eyes and in the cheeks, may be good candidates for facial fat transfer. Age can create a sharp line of transition between the lower eyelid and cheek. Those seeking to restore volume and vitality to the face may find that facial fat transfer is the ideal procedure to address those concerns.
Dr. Falcone is an expert in facial contouring…successfully helping hundreds of patients per year feel better about their appearance.
There are a number of reasons why patients may choose to utilize their own fat for a facial rejuvenation. For some patients dermal fillers are not an option due to sensitivities or allergies to the synthetic materials. There is no chance of this reaction occurring with a facial fat transfer, since the procedure uses the body’s own fat cells.
Fat transfer also contains growth factors, which can help rejuvenate the surrounding skin. This can contribute to a healthier and more youthful tissue growth.
The fat may also provide an increased longevity of results, sometimes lasting for several years as compared to fillers which last 9-12 months.
Fat Transfer to the Hands / Hand Rejuvenation
Are your hands making you look older than you feel?
After the face, our hands are the next most visible and dramatic indicator of our age. The hands undergo the deterioration of aging the same way the face does. The soft tissue in the hands gradually loses fat as we age making the veins, tendons, and bones more prominent. This can give your hands a noticeably “bony” or “veiny” look.
The skin of the hands is usually even more exposed to the sun than our faces, and often less protected. So the skin on the hands becomes loose, wrinkled, and pigmented.
“Many of our patients who have facial rejuvenation are increasingly aware of the incongruity between the youthful face and the aged hands,” according to Dr. Falcone. “You can estimate a person’s age pretty accurately by viewing the hands alone, which makes hand rejuvenation a popular procedure.”
Hand rejuvenation can create a more youthful appearance to the hands. Restoring the lost volume through fat transfer to the hands can make the veins, tendons, and bones less prominent. And surface treatments with laser or microneedling can also help restore the skin.
Dr. Falcone helps hundreds of patients per year to achieve their goal of a more youthful appearance. She expertly extracts the fat from other parts of the body and carefully injects it t into the back of the hands. There, it will add slight thickness to skin and soften the hand for a more youthful appearance.
Dr. Falcone is exceptional in her field and utilizes a combination of techniques to give each patient the best results for their hand rejuvenation. During your consultation she will advise you of your options and what treatment or combination of treatments may help you to achieve the best results.
How Is A Fat Transfer Procedure Performed?
Fat transfer is a three-step process….harvesting, purification, and reinjection.
First Dr Falcone uses Body Jet Liposuction to gently harvest fat from an area of your body. Body jet lipo is one of the newest methods of liposuction that uses a pressurized stream of water to gently dislodge and remove the fat cells. The gentle effect of the water keeps the surrounding connective tissue intact, and healing therefore takes place at a much faster rate. It is also less damaging to the fat cells than other liposuction methods, which is important for the next step…purification.
During the purification step your fat cells are processed to insure that they have the greatest chance of survival after reinjection to your desired enhancement area. In fact, the primary challenge for fat transfer procedures in the past was that not all of the fat cells would consistently and predictably survive the transfer process.
The problem with this unpredictability in fat survival is that most of the areas being enhanced with fat transfer involve areas of the body that must have symmetry. Like the breasts, buttocks, or face. So if the survival of transferred fat was unpredictable it created a real problem for achieving optimal results.
The Falcone Center uses the leading-edge Puregraft system by Cytori instead of the older centrifugation technique.
The Puregraft system is the only fat grafting system clinically validated to improve long-term graft retention, and produce superior fat transfer outcomes.
Developed by some of the world’s foremost experts in adipose science, the Puregraft System was designed to standardize fat grafting, and address the procedure’s biggest weaknesses: inconsistency and unpredictability.
Puregraft’s selective filtration technology gently dialyzes the harvested fat, removing only blood, oil, fluid, and fragmented cells within a closed system. The result is a concentrated graft of healthy, viable fat cells.
Traditional methods of fat graft preparation are not effective at removing contaminants which cause decreased retention. Data published in a peer-reviewed article comparing Puregraft to centrifugation and the decant method show consistently lower contaminant levels in Puregraft. Microscopic appearance of the fat also shows significantly more purified and concentrated viable adipocytes using the Puregraft technology.
After the fat is purified Dr. Falcone will then skillfully re-inject it with specially designed needles into the areas that need augmentation.
Dr. Falcone’s goal is to help you achieve the most beautiful and natural-looking results, as well as to make your surgical experience as easy and comfortable as possible.
