A Brazilian Butt Lift is a procedure that uses fat transfer to enhance the shape and size of the buttocks. Many women choose this procedure because it uses their own body fat as filler as opposed to implants. You may be an ideal candidate for the procedure if you want to:
- Have your clothing fit more attractively
- Enhance your lower body
- Get a more aesthetically pleasing buttocks
- Enhance your overall body proportions
It is important that individuals have enough donor fat for the procedure. Those who don’t have enough fat for a Brazilian Butt Lift may be better candidates for a butt augmentation with implants.
What to Expect from the Procedure
The procedure is typically administered as an outpatient surgery. Local anesthesia will be used to help keep you comfortable. You will need to have a ride home as you should not sit for 1 week after the procedure.
While a Brazilian Butt Lift is highly individualized, it only involves three basic steps. First, fat will be removed from an area that has sufficient donor fat. In most circumstances, donor fat is harvested from the thighs, hips, lower back, or abdomen. The fat is extracted through liposuction. A small tube (cannula) will be inserted into the donor area. The donor fat is dislodged by moving the cannula in a back and forth motion, and it will then be suctioned out. The donor fat will be purified through the Body Jet Liposuction (water assisted liposuction) device or PureGraft system. When the purification process is complete, the fat will be injected into many areas in the buttocks.
What to Expect during Recovery
Immediately following the procedure, it is normal to have soreness and swelling. After the procedure, you will need to wear a compression garment on the area where liposuction was administered for at least two weeks.
It is necessary that you avoid sitting on your buttocks and sleeping on your back for about eights weeks after the procedure. After a few weeks, you will probably be allowed to sit for short periods with a donut pillow or BBL pillow.
The results of a Brazilian Butt Lift are long-lasting. The fat cells that were removed during liposuction will not return to the donor area, but the harvested fat that was injected into the buttocks will remain for many years. Weight gain, weight loss, and smoking can effect the long term result so it is suggested that non-smoking candidates are close to their ideal body weight when they have their procedure. The final results will typically surface about six months after the procedure.
