BOTOX® is most commonly known as a treatment for premature aging. It is known as a way of treating dynamic wrinkles. What many people don’t know is that BOTOX® was used for a number of medical treatments long before it was used for purely cosmetic treatments. One of the amazing treatments BOTOX® offers is relief for hyperhidrosis.

Hyperhidrosis is a disorder that causes your body to produce excessive amounts of sweat. For individuals battling with this disorder, simple things such as wearing certain clothes, playing sports, and being in large crowds can be unnerving. This is because regardless of the circumstances they are in, their body sweats profusely, especially under their arms. BOTOX® has been shown to help minimize the effects of hyperhidrosis.

BOTOX® is an injectable purified protein solution that temporarily relaxes the muscles. Since 2004, the FDA approved BOTOX® as a tool for addressing hyper-active sweat glands underneath the arms. This treatment works because it is able to prevent your body from secreting chemicals that activate your sweat glands.

Each person is going to break down BOTOX® differently. So the duration of results for one person may not be exactly the same as they are for another. Most people are going to experience relief from hyperhidrosis after BOTOX® injections that will last anywhere from three months to six months. However, excessive exercise and excessive stress may change the body’s metabolic response, causing the results to disappear faster.

If you’re battling with hyperhidrosis, it’s likely that you wonder if BOTOX® injections are a good option for you. First, you should be at least 18 years old. It is recommended that you try other more conservative treatments, such as prescription antiperspirants, prior to having Botox injections. If these more conservative treatments do not work, then this treatment may be the right option for you. There are certain medical conditions that would preclude you from being a good candidate for BOTOX® treatments. However, these can be discussed with you by your medical professional.

Individuals who are battling with hyperhidrosis often feel uncomfortable living everyday life. They feel uncomfortable being around people because they’re self-conscious about the large sweat stains underneath their arms. Many with hyperhidrosis feel uncomfortable forming close romantic relationships because they are afraid that potential romantic partners will be grossed out by the excess sweating under their arms. People with hyperhidrosis feel that they cannot wear certain types of clothing and engage in a lot of the activities that non-hyperhidrosis sufferers take for granted.

If you feel that this describes your situation and you have not found relief using more conservative treatments, then you may benefit from learning more about BOTOX® injections for hyperhidrosis. Contact the Falcone Center to schedule your consultation!
