What is Hyperhidrosis?

Many people live with excessive sweating, a condition that is known clinically as hyperhidrosis. The most commonly recognized form of hyperhidrosis is underarm sweating, but the condition may also affect the:

  • Face
  • Feet
  • Palms

Hyperhidrosis is not caused by the sweat glands, but rather by specific nerves that control the sweat glands. For most people, these nerves trigger an appropriate response to feeling warm, and sweat is released to regulate body temperature. In people with hyperhidrosis, though, the nerves trigger inappropriate sweat responses, and the nerves do not properly control the release of sweat. People with the condition often sweat for reasons other than body temperature, such as part of an emotional response. Others experience excessive sweating with no identified trigger. The episodes of excessive sweating in those who have hyperhidrosis can occur without warning.

Signs and Symptoms of Hyperhidrosis

People with hyperhidrosis may experience:

  • Frequent dehydration
  • Overwhelming feelings of self-consciousness and embarrassment
  • Secondary skin infections

Hyperhidrosis Facts

Understanding hyperhidrosis helps you make the right decision for treatment and may alleviate some of the emotional effects of the condition.

  • Hyperhidrosis is a common condition
  • Excessive sweating is not an indicator of other health problems

Treatment Options for Hyperhidrosis

Men and women who live with hyperhidrosis for a long time often make subtle changes to their social lives, hobbies, activities and clothing choices in order to hide the effects of excessive sweating. Although these measures may camouflage the physical signs of the conditions, people may experience even deeper and more significant emotional implications.

miraDry® is a professional-grade treatment for hyperhidrosis that safely and effectively addresses excessive sweating. By using the treatment, you feel confident that your excessive sweating is controlled, and you can enjoy the benefits of your professional and personal life without worrying about sweating excessively.

What is miraDry®?

miraDry® is a non-surgical outpatient procedure that uses electromagnetic energy to destroy sweat glands in the areas where you experience hyperhidrosis. The FDA has approved miraDry® to address the sweating and odor that is caused by hyperhidrosis. The procedure is completely safe and does not interfere with sweating that is needed to regulate body temperature.

Benefits of miraDry® for Hyperhidrosis

On average, patients who undergo the miraDry® treatment for hyperhidrosis experience:

  • Up to three years of reduced sweating
  • Results after just one treatment
  • Up to 80% less sweat production in the treatment area

miraDry® treatments may result in hair loss in the treatment area, which may be beneficial for women who are tired of shaving and waxing their underarms.

What is the Procedure for miraDry® for Hyperhidrosis?

miraDry® is a non-invasive procedure that most patients find quite comfortable and relaxing. The average treatment time is 60 minutes.. A numbing cream is applied to the skin. A special device is used to send pulses of electromagnetic energy into the sweat glands. By destroying sweat glands with the miraDry® system, your body is unable to produce excess sweat. You will notice an immediate reduction in sweat production. The procedure requires no downtime.
