How Does Microneedling Improve Skin?
Microneedling uses a specialized device to deliver hundreds of tiny punctures in the skin. These minor skin injuries stimulate the skin’s natural healing process resulting in the production of skin firming proteins like elastin and collagen.
Newly developed growth factors work to thicken the skin and reduce the appearance of wrinkles, acne scarring, sun damage, and stretch marks.
Punctures from microneedling can also act as channels for enhanced delivery of topical skin care treatments like hyaluronic acid.
What Is The Difference Between At-Home Microneedling And That Performed By A Professional?
For safety reasons at-home microneedling tools tend to penetrate shallow depths of the skin. Because of this, they may have temporary brightening effects by helping to exfoliate dead skin cells, but they typically do little in actually stimulating collagen synthesis and promoting longer-lasting firming or smoothing effects.
In addition, at-home devices may not have disposable tips or a mechanism for sterilization. If needles or the treatment area aren’t properly sterilized, bacteria and other contaminants can be transferred into the skin risking infection or allergic reaction.
In contrast, in-office devices have sterilized disposable tips and have multiple depths of penetration. This allows needles to reach into collagen, elastin, and superficial blood vessels promoting tissue remodeling, which can tighten skin, improve texture and minimize acne and other scars.
Micronedling at home typically is more painful, with worse results, and a greater risk of infection.
RF Microneedling Takes Results to the Next Level
RF microneedling adds radio frequency (RF) energy to the traditional microneedling technique in order to further stimulate the creation of growth factors. RF microneedling uses specialized “energized” needles to create micro-punctures along the skin and deliver radiofrequency energy through these punctures simultaneously.
The addition of radiofrequency energy deep into the dermis amplifies the production of skin improving proteins and enzymes like collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid more than traditional microneedling alone. Added RF energy also heats under layers of the skin which further enhances skin tightening.
What Makes Potenza RF Microneedling Superior?
Potenza Tiger Tip Technology
Potenza’s Tiger Tip needles have technology that allows us to perform both shallow and deep treatments at the same time. This eliminates the need to re-trace the application area during your treatment. It decreases the treatment time and discomfort. With the Potenza Tiger Tip your treatment can be customized more to your skin type and your individual needs for fantastic results.
RF Microneedling Smooths Wrinkles Better
Boosting collagen levels is always beneficial for reducing wrinkles. Traditional microneedling provides a boost in collagen. However, RF Microneedling takes it to the next level. Heat created by the added RF energy also works to constrict underlying skin layers, helping to further smooth out even the most severe lines and wrinkles.
RF Microneedling Addresses Deeper Skin Layers
Compared to regular microneedling, RF microneedling is able to address deeper layers of the skin without creating as much damage to the top layers of the skin. This is due to the RF energy being delivered past the tip of each needle to deep layers of the skin to stimulate collagen production and tighten the skin.
RF Microneedling is Better for Acne Scars
All scars, including acne scars, are tough patches of thick and damaged skin. RF Microneedling is better able than traditional microneedling to address scars. The added RF energy breaks up scar matter better than just needle punctures alone. We can also focus higher levels of RF energy on scarred skin to maximize results.
RF Microneedling is More Customizable
RF microneedling treatments using the Potenza RF device are extremely customizable as both needle depth and RF energy intensity can be manipulated to meet your unique needs. RF microneedling can run from being a minor skin enhancing treatment to a dramatic (and deep) skin changing procedure.
RF Microneedling Pigmentation Issues, And Skin Types
RF Microneedling is safe for multiple skin types and tones. The radiofrequency heat as well as needle depth are adjustable and tailored specifically to the location on the face or neck that is being treated as well as for the color of the skin. For darker skin types, this is a major advantage over many lasers, which cannot be safely used on these more pigmented skin tones.
Can RF Microneedling Achieve Results Similar To Laser Skin Resurfacing?
Multiple treatment of RF Microneedling can usually provide skin improvements similar to what laser resurfacing can provide in a single treatment.
The benefit of RF Microneedling is that Laser resurfacing usually requires 7 – 10 days healing time post-treatment. And during those days you look pretty rough.
On the other hand, RF Microneedling treatments usually have only a day of minimal swelling and peeling. And during that time you are more presentable.
So while the results of RF Microneedling are more subtle and take more treatments than laser resurfacing, RF Microneedling may be more suitable for people who don’t want to plan extensive downtime in to their busy lifestyle.
In addition, where laser resurfacing often cannot be safely used on darker skin, RF Microneedling can be a safer alternative.
How Long Does Treatment Take?
Treatment time vary based on the amount of area and condition being treated. Most treatments can be performed in 45 minutes to an hour.
Is it Painful?
Before your treatment we apply a topical numbing cream to your skin for 30 minutes to minimize any discomfort during your treatment. Because it desensitizes nerve endings, most patients describe the treatment as virtually painless. You may experience a mild sensation of heating. Following the treatment, we apply a nourishing serum which helps to cool and sooth the skin.
What is the Downtime for RF Microneedling
After microneedling with radio frequency, your skin will be red and slightly tender, much like a sunburn. Also, you will have tiny pinpricks on your skin that crust and flake off in a few days. The redness usually dissipates within 24-48 hours depending on the deepness of your treatment. Most patients return to work or resume social activities after one day.
Who Is A Candidate for RF Microneedling?
Potenza RF Microneedling can be used on most skin types and tones, including sensitive skin and dark tones. It is safe for healthy individuals, unless you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or experiencing an active skin infection.
For your safety, you are required to complete a health screening consultation prior to treatment.
RF Microneedling Post-Treatment Care
For three days after your RF Microneedling treatment:
- Avoid direct sun exposure and wear protective sunblock every day
- Do not use make-up on the treated area
- Avoid outdoor activities and intense work
How Many RF Microneedling Sessions Will I Need?
Results may be achieved in as little as one treatment. For optimal outcome, we recommend a series of three treatments spaced 3-4 weeks apart.
Our medical staff will provide you with a recommended treatment plan based on the texture, tone and laxity of your skin during your consultation.
Preparing for a RF Microneedling Session
You should wash your face and refrain from applying sunscreen or cosmetic products prior to a treatment. Long hair should be secured away from the face. Wear loose, comfortable clothing since you may be lying down for an hour. If you experience an active skin condition or another health issue, notify the office to determine if rescheduling is necessary.
