What Is Restylane® Silk?

Many patients develop fine lines around their mouth and experience a loss of volume in their lips as they grow older. Restylane® Silk is an FDA-approved treatment that will add volume to one’s lips and minimize the appearance of wrinkles (perioral rhytids) on the lower half of the face*.

Benefits of Restylane® Silk

Also known as smoker’s lines, vertical wrinkles on the side of the mouth are a common sign of aging. This cosmetic issue can detract from an otherwise youthful appearance, and many patients have turned to Restylane® products as a minimally invasive treatment option for improving the shape of their lips and toning the nearby soft tissue. Restylane® Silk is made up of fine particles that are much smaller and smoother than other Restylane® products. This exclusive gel product allows cosmetic specialists to make subtle changes to their patients’ lips and skin. Restylane® Silk can be used to treat the following conditions:

  • Lips that have lost volume due to the patient’s age.
  • Fine lines and wrinkles that run along the edge of the patient’s upper lip.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Restylane® Silk?

When injected by an experienced doctor such as Dr. Falcone, this treatment has an exceptionally high rate of success. Practically any healthy adult that would like fuller and shapelier lips will be a great candidate for Restylane® Silk.

How Should I Prepare For Restylane® Silk?

Restylane® Silk is made from a variety of natural ingredients, but the occasional patient does have an allergic reaction to their injections. Patients that have a history of allergic reactions should speak with r. Falcone before undergoing this treatment. They should also inform Dr. Falcone of any other medication that they are taking, recent injections, or plastic surgery that has been carried out on their face or neck.

Most patients don’t need to make many changes to their daily schedule in the weeks leading up to their injections. In some cases, Dr. Falcone might suggest that the patient avoids non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen and aspirin for at least a week before their appointment. Other supplements such as St. John’s Wort and vitamin E can also affect a patient’s recovery time and results.

How Is Restylane® Silk Administered?

Restylane® Silk treatment begins by thoroughly cleaning the skin and marking the injection sites on the lips. Dr. Falcone will then apply a topical anesthetic to the lips to minimize any chance of discomfort. Once the area is numb, she will inject the Restylane® Silk gel directly into the lips. The entire treatment typically lasts just 30 minutes from start to finish.

While patients will notice immediate results, the soft tissue might continue to improve for up to a week after the injections due to renewed hydration. These results can last for a year or longer with the proper aftercare.
