What is CoolSculpting®?

Surgical weight loss treatments such as liposuction can be very effective, but they also require a major investment of time and money. This is why many patients have turned to non-invasive procedures such as CoolSculpting®, which have little or no downtime. During a CoolSculpting® procedure, the surgeon will use a device to target and freeze fat cells. After the cells are frozen, they will become so weak that the patient’s body will naturally metabolize them. Some other facts that patients should know about CoolSculpting® include:

  • It has been approved by the FDA.
  • Only one area can be treated at a time.
  • The average treatment time is one hour.
  • Patients generally require two to four treatments for the best results.
  • It is non-invasive and requires no anesthesia

What is SculpSure™?

While CoolSculpting® uses freezing temperatures to weaken fat cells, SculpSure™ actually heats fat cells with a powerful laser. A medical-grade laser can be directed at stubborn pockets of fat throughout the body in order to emulsify the cells. After the laser has melted the cells, the patient’s body will naturally begin to expel them. In addition to melting fat cells, the SculpSure™ laser will also stimulate the patient’s skin and increase its production of collagen and elastin. This results in taut skin and a thinner appearance.

Some of the other benefits of SculpSure™ include:

  • FDA-approved.
  • It is non-invasive and requires no anesthesia.
  • Up to four areas can be treated at a time.
  • Only one treatment is needed.
  • Treatments generally last for just 25 minutes.

Why Dr. Falcone Recommends SculpSure™ Over CoolSculpting®

Here at The Falcone Center for Functional, Cosmetic, and Integrative Medicine, we do not offer our patients CoolSculpting®. The reason for this is because we want to provide our patients with the most advanced technology that we feel will help them achieve the best non-invasive fat removal results available today.

Dr. Falcone has been a liposuction specialist since 2007. She has performed thousands of awake liposuction procedures using SmartLipo™, Vaser Liposelection, Body-Jet liposuction and Fat transfer technologies. For years she has looked at non-invasive fat removal devices and for various reasons, was not impressed with the results enough to bring the technology to her practice. With the FDA approval of SculpSure™ in 2015, this story has changed.  We believe that SculpSure™ produces world-class results in just a fraction of the time as CoolSculpting®. SculpSure™ is often a more efficient way to target and remove stubborn pockets of fat throughout the body. Because of the laser effects of SculpSure™, we feel it allows for a more consistent and tapered result than CoolSculpting®.

The key to any treatment selection is to get a thorough consultation with someone skilled in many different options so that you have been properly educated on the advantages and disadvantages of each treatment. Dr. Falcone is passionate about transforming your shape. She has been doing weight loss medicine for 11 years and can advise you on liposuction options or non-invasive treatments.  It is worth your time to arrange a consultation at the Falcone Center.

The biggest mistake I have seen with CoolSculpting®, Strawberry Laser, Carboxy therapy, Mesotherapy and other non-surgical fat reduction options over the past 5 years, is in patient selection. Patients who have large pockets of fat are being sold CoolSculpting® or other treatment packages and then are disappointed when they have only minimal improvement. This is most common in facilities that only offer CoolSculpting®/non-surgical options for fat reduction.

For the same or less cost, the same patient, if properly advised, may have chosen an awake liposuction procedure such as SmartLipo™ to have a much more significant transformation. Of course, some patients for various reasons will not consider a liposuction procedure even if it is done while they are awake with no general anesthesia. The issue is that there are MANY patients that have come to my office after spending $3000-$6000 on CoolSculpting® packages who really weren’t candidates in the first place due to their expectations vs the amount of fat that can be removed in one non-surgical treatment session. A fair estimate for any non-surgical treatment, even considering CoolSculpting® and SculpSure™ as the most effective in the group, is a 20% reduction in the fat pad in one treatment. If you have a very large fat pad that would require multiple sessions in each area to meet your expectations, you definitely want to consult with a practice such as the Falcone Center where you have a variety of options before making your treatment decision.”  Dr. Victoria Falcone
