This therapy on the face is often referred to as a vampire facial because the blood of the patient is used during the treatment. The patient has their blood drawn and treated. This blood is then injected into the face in strategic areas. This encourages the skin to renew and heal, encourage collagen production, and generate skin cells containing human growth factors. These growth factors combined with the increased collagen result in a more youthful appearance, firmer looking skin and a plumper look. The skin is refreshed naturally with little downtime.

The Specifics of the Treatment

The vampire facial is a minimally-invasive procedure involving a series of small injections into specific areas of the face. These injections are small and similar to those used for dermal fillers and anti-wrinkle injections. The treatment begins with a cleansing and preparation of the targeted areas. These areas are marked with a special pencil. Approximately two teaspoons of blood are taken from the arm then put into a centrifuge. The lighter plasmas is separated by spinning the blood at a high speed. A special process is used to release the growth factors that contain healing properties and increase collagen production.

The platelet-rich plasma is then ready to be injected into the face. Three treatments are usually required for the best results although one treatment is effective for some people. The release of the stem cells is stimulated by the growth factors contained in the plasma. This basically tricks the skin into believing there is an injury and fresh new tissue is required for healing. The skin then creates new cells, blood vessels and collagen. The results require anywhere from a few weeks to a few months as the skin starts to transform.

The Benefits

The main benefit of a vampire facial is the ability to treat dark circles around the eyes, scarring from acne, crow’s feet, skin with a rough, grey or dull texture and tone, fine lines surrounding the mouth, skin damaged by the sun and crepe like skin on the neck, eye area and décolletage. Once the procedure is complete, the individual can continue with their regular daily activities.

The Difference Between Vampire Facials and Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are made using a substance designed to copy what is naturally located beneath the skin. This gel fills in the folds and lines on the face. The product is absorbed by the body in six to twelve months. After this period, another treatment is necessary. A vampire facial is different because it stimulates the body to produce new tissue and collagen to improve both texture and tone while creating a more youthful appearance. A vampire facial can be used successfully in areas it is not safe to use a dermal filler.
